Okonomiyaki Easy Recipe

5:13 AM

Okonomiyaki (お好み焼き o-konomi-yakiis a Japanese savory pancake containing a variety of ingredients. The name is derived from the wordokonomi, meaning "what you like" or "what you want", and yaki meaning "grilled" or "cooked". So Okonomiyaki means "grilled as you want", for me the ingredients of okonomiyaki seems like a vegetables salad, you can mix it as you want. Such as cabbage, carrot, onion or even green beans. There is two kind of okonomiyaki in Japan. The one from Tokyo and another one from Hiroshima. Tokyo okonomiyaki is usually smaller than a Hiroshima or Kansai okonomiyaki. As we usually know okonomiyaki's ingredients will mixes and grills at tables fitted with teppan, but just by hearing those things we probably will think that "BLAH forget it, just buy it in the restaurant.." SO in this post i will show you how easy this thing can you make! Make it with our own style and also with a satisfactory result!
We can use our pan and recipe though we all know one of an important ingredients of Okonomiyaki is Katsuobushi but dont worry we still can substituted it with another magic ingredients:D

So what is katsuoboshi? it is the Japanese name for dried, fermented, and smoked skipjack tuna (indonesian called it abon ikan) you need it as a garnish for okonomiyaki, the taste of katsuoboshi will make your okonomiyaki tasted like a restaurant's okonomiyaki. So if you have it, it would be good!

I just bought some katsudonburi in daiso sg, and the only things that appear in my mind was OKONOMIYAKI!

It was too easy to make it, all you need is only flour, one egg, and vegetables. Than you can make your own creation and make it as you want. In my opinion we can change the katsuoboshi 'taste' with cheese or seaweeds.
Now i will tell you my creation for this recipe, hope it can help you!<3

Okonomiyaki Ingredients:

  1. 300 gr Cabbage
  2. Other vegetable you liked (ex. carrot, green bean, green onions, leek, etc.)
  3. 1 large egg
  4. 100 gr flour / Okonomi flour
  5. salt, pepper, garlic powder, and powdered chicken stock
  6. Mayonnaise and Katsuoboshi
Sauce Ingredients:
  1. 2 tbl sp Oyster Sauce
  2. 1,5 tbl sp ketchup
  3. 0,5 tbl sp chili sauce
  4. 0,5 tbl sp pepper
  5. 0,25 tbl sp powdered chicken stock
  6. 2 tbl sp water
This is How We Do!
  1. Remove the core and tough parts of the stems from the cabbage and shred it.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, carrot, leek, and all the vegetable. Toss it with two large forks or your fingers to distribute everything evenly.
  3. Put the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and powdered chicken stock,  and mix it, than put the egg and and whisk together until the everything is uniformly incorporated.
  4. put a lil' bit oil in your pan, and add Okonomiyaki mixture. If you want to put some cheese feeling than you can grated the cheese and cover it with the mixture too. (ps. do not put too much mixture, or it will end up to be half-cooked okonomiyaki)
  5. Cover with a lid and cook until the bottom is well browned (about 3-4 minutes).
  6. Flip the okonomiyaki. If you are unsure about your flipping abilities, You can you 2 spatula or use a spoon.
  7. Press down on the top of the okonomiyaki with a spatula and cook uncovered until the second side is browned as well .
  8. Slide the okonomiyaki out of the pan onto a plate and top with the sauce, mayonnaise, katsuobushi and chili sauce.
FIOLA!
